Maine Manufacturing is a contract manufacturer providing a diversified portfolio of products and services to life science, medical and diagnostic customers. Established in 2007 by Craig Cunningham, the company was founded to provide complete turn-key life science solutions addressing the needs of the life science marketplace.The early steps established Maine Manufacturing’s credibility as the company became a trusted supplier to the region’s foremost life science organizations. These early efforts enabled Maine Manufacturing to receive national recognition as a single source for identifying and supplying raw materials, product and process development, manufacturing, and quality services.

In 2008, Bill Emhiser, who had recently been CEO of Whatman plc in London, England, joined Craig and the Maine Manufacturing team as President to continue operational and strategic growth for the company. Around the same time, GE Healthcare, which had just acquired Whatman, announced the closing of their 90,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Sanford Maine. In an effort to mitigate the economic impact to the area and to rapidly add significant value and volume to its business, Maine Manufacturing approached GE with an offer to keep parts of the business scheduled to be relocated in Maine.

After lengthy negotiations, Maine Manufacturing entered into an agreement to acquire certain assets from the Whatman Division of GE Healthcare. Effective January 1, 2010 this agreement enabled Maine Manufacturing to not only occupy a world class manufacturing facility, but to gain manufacturing volume while adding a significant amount of scientific and engineering capabilities in a very short amount of time. This transaction led to a significant time of growth for Maine Manufacturing upon which we have built a strong and robust sustainable business dedicated to meeting the ever changing needs of our customers.
